Hon'ble Mr. Justice Ashutosh Kumar was born on 1st October 1966. After his schooling from St Michaels' High School, Patna, he graduated from St. Stephens’ College, Delhi University. Justice Kumar did his LLB. from Campus Law Centre, Delhi University. Enrolled as an advocate on 9th July 1991, at Patna High Court. As an advocate Justice Kumar has appeared in important criminal matters including matter related to convicts on Death Row. He was a Government Pleader for the State of Bihar for a short period. He has been elevated as a judge of Patna High Court on 15th of May 2014. He was transferred to Delhi High Court on 07th January 2015 and was repatriated again to Patna High Court on 24th November 2017. Took oath as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court on 21st July, 2025.

Born in a family, where his grandfather Late B.D.S. Barooah, retired as a District Judge and his father Late Justice D.N. Baruah, retired as Judge of the Gauhati High Court; Justice Devashis Baruah completed his schooling from Don Bosco School, Guwahati in the year 1989, his graduation in B.A. (History) from the Cotton College, Guwahati in the year 1994 and obtained his LL.B from Campus Law Centre, Delhi University in the year, 1997. After obtaining his Law degree, he started practicing before the Gauhati High Court at its Principal Seat as well as before its outlying benches. He also appeared regularly before the Civil Courts and Tribunals. He practiced in diverse fields such as civil, constitutional, taxation, arbitration and company matters. He was the Standing Counsel of the Election Commission of India since 2009 till his elevation. He was also the Additional Advocate General of Assam at the time of his elevation. He was elevated as an Additional Judge, Gauhati High Court on 13.10.2021. Became permanent Judge w.e.f. 01.08.2023.

Biography

Born on 15th January, 1968 at Kohima, Nagaland. Did her matriculation in the year 1983 from Little Flower School, Kohima, obtained BA (Hons) from Lady Shri Ram College, New Delhi in the year 1988. After completing LLB from Campus Law Center Delhi in the year 1992, she enrolled in the Bar Council of North East on 03.11.1992 under Gauhati High Court. Joined Government panel as Junior Govt. Advocate in the year 1996, worked as Jr. Govt. Advocate, Additional Sr. Govt. Advocate and Sr. Govt. Advocate. She was recruited as District and Session Judge Kohima on 10.04.2013, and thereafter, served as Special Judge Lokayukta, Sessions Judge Dimapur (twice), Registrar Kohima Bench and Secretary Judicial Law Department Govt. of Nagaland. Appointed as Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on 17th February, 2025. She is the first Lady amongst the Nagas to be appointed as the Judge of the High Court.

Biography

After completing his schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Khanapara, Guwahati, he pursued higher education at St. Stephens College, University of Delhi, where he earned a B.A. (Honours) in Economics. He subsequently obtained his LL.B. degree from the Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi.He was enrolled as an Advocate under the North East Bar Council and commenced legal practice at the Gauhati High Court and various District Courts, handling matters across diverse fields of law until 2011. In February 2012, he joined the Assam Judicial Service (Grade–I). Over the years, he has served in multiple judicial capacities, including as Additional District and Sessions Judge at Nagaon and as District and Sessions Judge at Tinsukia, Kamrup (Metro), Morigaon, Jorhat and Special Judge, CBI and NIA. He has also held administrative and academic positions, serving as Registrar (Judicial & IT) and Director(i/c), Faculty Member at the North Eastern Judicial Officers Training Institute and Judicial Academy, Assam. He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on 30th July 2025.
